Pond water flows up through filter pads and filter media with high surface area allowing suspended debris to be trapped and beneficial bacteria to provide biological filtration. A perfect basic bio filter with added mechanical filtration in the form of filter pads.  Comes with Matala filter pad. Bio media not included- recommended to pair with 1 box of Springflo Bio Media Ribbon
